Christmas Decorations Around Melbourne

Over the last weeks Christmas decorations have been appearing around the city. The city is rolling out new decorations in many parts of the city centre. There appears to be a trend towards a nature based theme using living pine trees, with a move away from large metal structures of previous years.

This is the last year we expect to see Christmas in the city, so my camera has been kept busy capturing memories.

City Square, recently occupied by protesters, is now filled with trees, Nut Cracker inspired toy soldiers, and a nativity scene.

The Docklands has continued with its traditional nautical theme.

The department store, Myer, unveiled its series of Christmas windows. The windows draw large crowds and demand staff to help guide families along. Inside the newly renovated building a Santa themed train ride is operating.

Over the Yarra River one of central footbridges has been turned into a perch for mistletoe.

We passed a line of fun decorated motorbikes parked near Southgate.

One of the iconic Melbourne City Circle trams has been repainted for the Christmas season.

Burn Folder Content Size on Mac OS X 10.7 aka Lion

Mac OS X 10.7, aka Lion, changes the location of the content size for burn folders. Previously, this information was available in a lower bar of the burn foler’s Finder window.

In Mac OS X 10.7, you can calculate and view the content size of your burn folder in the Get Info window:

Burn Folder content size has moved to the Get Info window.

Select the burn folder in the Finder.
Select the menu item: File > Get Info.

The content size information is in the Burning: section of the Get Info window.

Penguins at St Kilda

During the last two weeks, the penguins have appeared at St Kilda, Melbourne. In the early morning hours I have seen ten or more at a time while out running.

This morning Megan and I set off on for a longer walk to St Kilda to see if we could spot any penguins during the day time. We were lucky.

Megan and I spent yesterday sightseeing along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. Our stops included Torquay, Bells Beach, Apollo Bay, and the Port Campbell National Park.

I had my camera on hand throughout the day and came away with great footage and stills.

Japanese Summer Dance (Bon Odori)

This afternoon we visited Melbourne’s Docklands to see the Japanese Summer Festival 2010 (メルボルン夏祭り2010開催). I had fun capturing and editing together some of the summer dance performance.

Once again this short film was taken on a Canon SX200IS and edited with iMovie on Mac OS X. I continue to be impressed with the quality of the footage from a point-and-shoot Canon. iMovie’s stabilisation feature has been great for making more of my shaky footage useful.
